What differentiates the people who are able to achieve so much from those who don’t? Since everyone gets 24 hrs in a day, irrespective of being Poor/ Rich, Young/ Old, having huge work to do or nothing at all, we must learn to be Effective in our Lives.

Habit 1: Proactivity.

Its about taking Responsibility for our Life. As humans, we have the initiative and responsibility to make things happen.

There are things which are beyond our Real Control say natural calamities. Reactive people generally focus on things like these external circumstances and acting as victims. This leads to decrease in their Circle of Influence.

However, Proactive people choose to focus on Actions & response to circumstances, in turn powerfully affecting their circumstances.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in Mind.

It means clearly identifying the goals that one plans to achieve specifically, with any activity and overall, in all areas of Life.
How would you like to be remembered on your funeral as a Son/ Daughter, Husband/ Wife or a Parent?

What kind of a colleague, Boss or member of a Society?

Someone who contributed to relations and helped others & growth of Society or someone who did not do anything or worse, did destroy things around him!

Keeping this in mind allows us to make important decisions and have actions that are truly based on our Principles and Goals in Life.

Habit 3: Put First Things First.

2 factors generally determine our course of action for different Activities:

  1. Urgency – How quickly do we need it?
  2. Importance – Will it contribute towards our long term of Mission & Goals?

Things such as building Relations, writing Mission statements, Planning & preparation are the things that impact our life and thus are of utmost importance for Personal as well as Professional management.
However these are never considered urgent and so often Ignored.
Whereas day to day matters that are not impacting our Lives is where majority of our time is spent as these are urgent and require immediate attention.

So, we must get our Priorities very clear deep in our mind to act based on the Important things and move from spending majority of our time from Urgent to Significant Life impacting activities.

These habits help in internal Effectiveness & independence, which serves as a basis for developing external qualities that lead to Effectiveness with others & interdependence.

Habit 4: Think Win/Win – Seeking Solutions that are mutually beneficial for both the parties, lead to long term Victories. For that to happen, we should set up systems that encourage people to co-operate with others & work together.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood.

Most people do not listen with the intent to understand, rather they listen to Reply.
They rush to fix things with good advice without diagnosing & understanding the problem first.
more often than not, people don’t even need Solutions. They just need someone who would listen to them Empathetically – someone who would understand their situation.

This is one of the greatest Human need to be Understood, validated & Appreciated.

Habit 6: Synergy.

The habit of Synergy refers to create something which is greater than sum of its parts.

From fighting with each other to understanding each other & fighting the problem together with openness and Communication leads to creating Synergistic solutions.

Synergy values the differences among people and combines the forces to create valuable output which can be far beyond the sum of individuals.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.

The best investment that we can make is Investing in ourselves. This is on various aspects and dimensions of our Life like Exercise, continuous Education, unconditional Love.

We must create habit of dedicating 1 hour daily to develop these habits and integrate them in our lives to be highly Effective.
